The development of W-KLIC proceeded along the schedule proposed in the original proposal. The implementation work has not been completed, mainly due to a delayed start of the project (due to administrative reasons) and to a longer period for the understanding of the KLIC implementation. Some of the features described in the proposal (e.g., the ability to explicitly declare a KLIC module as cgi_script) have not been realized due to the inherent limitations of KLIC (e.g., lack of real meta-programming capabilities). Other features have been implemented differently from what originally proposed to overcome restrictions imposed by the browser selected for this project (Netscape).
The implementation is continuing and the first complete prototype of W-KLIC is expected for June '99.
One feature which was still incomplete in the preliminary version of the code (CGI scripting) has been refined during the brushup activity and is now functional. During the brushup activity we have also introduced the ability to embed KLIC code in HTML documents and execute it on the client-side. This feature relies on the PlugIn interface of the Netscape browser.
Some additions are also currently planned for W-KLIC:
