The development of W-KLIC started in September 1997 thanks to funding
from AITEC Japan. The development team is directed by Enrico Pontelli and
composed by Gopal Gupta, Koustubh Deopura, Premkumar Jonnala, and Nayana Datta.
While the design of W-KLIC has been completed and has reached a sufficiently
stable status, the implementation is still undergoing. The implementation
work followed the schedule below:
- September '97 -- November '97: exploratory study of the KLIC
system;
- November '97 -- December '97: understanding and implementation
of the HTTP layer;
- December '97 -- January '97: implementation of HTML/KLIC terms
interface and CGI capabilities;
- January '97 -- February '97: implementation of CCI interface;
development of the first complex system (virtual classroom) using
Message layer, HTTP layer, and prelimnary part of the Object
layer.
The project has received renewed funding from AITEC Japan for the period
from June '98 to January '99. The goal of this renewed funding was to perform
some additional brushup activities on the preliminary results achieved in
the 97/98 period. The brushup activity proceeded along the following lines
(note: the actual development activity started
only in october due to burecrautic delays in processing the funding):
- October '98 -- December '98: In
this period the research concentrated on the first stage of
the development of the active pages concept.
- December '98 -- January '99: during this period the
activity focused on the revision of the user manual, the refinement
of the CGI capabilities and in the reorganization of the source code.
The overall goals promised for the brushup phase of the project have been
met.
